Anyone who has spent any time in Brussels will be well aware the city and comics go together like beer and waffles!
These paper heroes are everywhere: bookshops, murals, exhibitions, art galleries, television, even Hollywood has fallen under their spell: on 21 October 2011 the world premiere of Steven Spielberg’s cinema adaptation of Tintin took place in Brussels whilst the Smurfs will be making a comeback this summer.
The Comics Festival was created in 2010 by the Brussels-Capital Region as the logical continuation of the comic strip themed year organized in Brussels in 2009.
This weekend will see three days of fun as the Comics Festival lands on Place des Palais. Get the suntan oil and head out with your kids to see a 3D projection mapping on the Place Royale watch the Balloon’s Day Parade. Read the Tintin magazine and enjoy guided visits and comics exhibitions at the festival and throughout the city, in particular at BOZAR and the Belgian Comic Strip Centre.
The festival will boast museum exhibitions, publishers, bookshops, boutiques and signing sessions.
This year’s guest of honour is Taiwan. The Taiwan Cultural Centre in Paris is joining the event to present and reveal some excellent authors from Taiwan, especially Messrs. Chiu Row Long and Chen Hung Yao. You will be able to meet these prestigious artists and discover the art of Taiwanese comic books in all its forms.
