The show “30 Years of Donations, 20 Years of Dialogue” will be the last before the museum moves to a new building set to open in 2013. The museum first opened three decades ago and the collection has grown from its original 5,000 objects to 20,000 now. In 1990 the Delsemme family made a donation of its private collection which greatly expanded the range of art that the museum could show.
It can now boast works by Picasso, Dürer and Belgian artists such as d’Alechinsky à Van Lint.
Some 300 works will be exhibited including paintings and sculptures from the Renaissance, abstract art from the 20th century and also ancient Congolese carvings. The show has been made possible by the many donations from the Belgian public and these will be the highlight of the exhibition.
